Natural Cleaning Methods For Mold
For minor mold damage cleanup, many purchase bleach or mold removers from their local hardware store and combat it that way, but some prefer not to use such harsh chemicals in their home if unnecessary. For those who choose to go a greener route there are alternative methods to minor mold damage cleanup.
Pure vinegar destroys more than ¾ of the types of mold out there. Fill a clean, empty spray bottle with vinegar and spray the mold damaged area. And that’s it. No rinsing is involved as it will only disturb mold spores and rinse away the vinegar. Some folks don’t like the smell of vinegar in their home, but it doesn’t last long. Open a window if it becomes bothersome to help the odor dissipate.
**Tea Tree Oil**
Tea tree oil is a great mold cleaner. Like vinegar, it has a heavy smell, but, again, it will dissipate. Use about 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil with 2 cups of water and spray the area liberally. (Tea tree oil is very strong so it needs to be diluted.) No need to rinse. Mold should disappear within a few days.
**Grapefruit Seed Extract**
Like tea tree oil, grapefruit seed extract is strong – in the sense that you don’t need to use a lot. About 15-20 drops of this stuff with 2 cups of water will do the job. The nice thing about grapefruit seed extract is that it doesn’t leave a heavy odor behind.
